Suspended Ceiling Mounted Equipment

Location: Rialto, CA

This project required the structural design of a custom support system to suspend ceiling-mounted equipment from the underside of an existing concrete-filled metal deck. The design accounted for both vertical gravity loads and lateral forces in two directions, ensuring a robust and code-compliant solution capable of handling the full range of anticipated loading conditions.

One of the primary challenges of this project was navigating the heavily congested suspended ceiling space, where existing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems presented significant obstacles to both the design and installation of the support framework. Careful coordination was required to route and position structural members efficiently without compromising the integrity or accessibility of existing building systems.

The support system was designed utilizing Unistrut channel framing and steel angles, providing a versatile and practical solution that allowed for precise adjustability during installation while maintaining the necessary strength to meet all structural demands. The combination of these materials offered an efficient and cost-effective approach well-suited to the spatial constraints of the ceiling cavity.
